Have you checked out watching TV online? I just found Movielink.com, that lets you download movies and rent them for a small fee. The download time is ridiculous, though. If you have a reasonable internet connection watching movies online through a Netflix membership is great too.
Netflix online sounds like a great solution. The computer is much slower to turn on and off (than a TV), but I just found msnbc's video site, which has great video quality, so that's helping!
