shopping makes you tired

Absolutely! What do you miss about shopping in Sweden?

Pretty much everything! I like cities with streets and stores. I like having a mix of people, on their way to different things, around me. And I like Scandinavian design. And cotton. Any natural fiber, actually. Yesterday I was in stores where everything was acrylic.

The irony is that Gilroy sits smack in the middle of farmland. It gets really hot in the summer. It's hot already. Clingy acrylic tops is the last thing you want. It was weird seeing those things there, out of place.

I hear you! I love that about Sweden, too.

(Strip malls...strip my soul...just a little.)

When I was little, shopping in small town America was sweet and simple. With so many small towns growing into big cities or sprawling suburbs, I am so happy to shop online!

Do any of your favorite stores in Sweden sell online now too?

MMmm... I actually haven't really looked into on line shopping. I like to shop when I am there, it makes me feel at home. So I kind of save it for then!

But, now I am curious about your background! Did you grow up in both countries?

All of my Swedish family lives in Sweden, except for four of us. We were raised to be "American" (old world thinking, which I don’t recommend, as it creates a sense of illiteracy within ones own family). When in Sweden, we stay with family and friends. It takes about a month to visit with everyone. There's never enough time, but it's how our family was fragmented so it's what we do. :)

Yeah... I understand the thinking and the consequences. But, it is equally confusing with the kids I have in class who identify as "Mexican" or "Chinese" even though they were born American citizens. The US is an endlessly fascinating place.
