he can say that, because he is mexican too

I was talking to one of my favorite people today, a very passionate gay young man. He told me he had been volunteering his time phone banking, making calls against California's Proposition 8, but that he had had to stop because he was getting too upset, too involved. He was fearing for his health.

Proposition 8 would eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California. That right is important to my friend. He said the issue is affecting his friendships, and that friends are telling him he shouldn't take it personally that they support the proposition.

Not take it personally?

He said, "I tell them how would you feel if I told you Mexicans can't marry, but that you shouldn't take it personally?". And he said, "I want to vote on straight people's right to marry."

My vote is for no marriage. For anyone. Straight or not. However, I'm all for life-long relationships. Celebrated in whatever fashion one desires. Including the writing up of ones own legally appointed rights in any individual way a couple desires. All one needs is an attorney. So and so gets to care for me should I need help. So and so gets to visit me in the hospital. So and so will care for my kids. So and so gets all my stuff. Tada. Simple as that. Come to think of it, we can all do this now, ourselves. No matter what anyone else is doing. There's no need to wait to follow a leader. :o)

Here over in Sweden we can't do more than keep our fingers crossed, but we do!

Evis, thanks! I tell people here about our habits of kicking someone in the butt, and hold our thumbs for good luck. The kicks especially are popular!

Thanks for posting all the items on prop 8. I was truly sadden by the vote. Everyone across the country was watching, including me. I even donated a few times, especially when I got a call from my best friend. We both fought it in our own ways. I love my friend and I want to protect him, but I know his stomach hurts after this battle on prop. 8. - Your favorite Nicaraguan / German
